The Power of Positive Reinforcement

Which would you like to hear about: what you did wrong or what you did right?  While there is definite value in constructive criticism, words of affirmation will more likely motivate a person to keep moving in a positive direction.  One of my ancestors grew up in a home that lived by the philosophy, ‘Why should I praise you for doing it right?  You were supposed to do it right!’  My ancestor heard one critical statement after another.  His spirit was repeatedly crushed by criticism.  As a result, he perpetuated this critical spirit by wounding and demoralizing his children.  Negative words rob people of their joy and hope, while positive affirmations lift their spirits.

Words of praise and affirmation are like money in the bank.  When we speak positive words to our children, spouses, employees and coworkers, we are making a deposit of encouragement into their souls.  The more that we endeavor to deposit encouragement into them, the more they will be able to also receive constructive criticisms from us.  Positive affirmations are actually demonstrations of grace, and they lead to creating a secure emotional environment in relationships.  When a person senses that they are loved unconditionally, then they are more likely to perceive constructive criticism as an act of love instead of rejection.  This then leads to positive changes and growth in their lives.

Right now, I am learning how to build my first team of Ignite associates.  My mentors emphasize the need to praise my associates for every positive step that they take no matter how small.  Doing so will encourage them to press on in spite of any fearful thoughts of failure.  Goals are accomplished by taking one step forward at a time.  Fear of failure leads to paralysis.  Creating a grace-filled environment will help my associates not only move forward, but also move at an accelerated pace toward financial freedom and personal growth.  How is this accomplished?  Lots of positive affirmations each step of the way!
